"Strong winds. Real damage. Fast response."

Understanding Wind Damage: What to Expect

For many home and business owners, wind damage strikes suddenly and unexpectedly — especially during storms, hurricanes, or strong gust events. If you’re dealing with wind damage for the first time, it can be difficult to know where to start. High winds can tear off shingles, damage siding, break windows, and uproot trees — all of which can create entry points for water, debris, and pests. These openings often lead to hidden water intrusion, interior damage, and even mold growth if not addressed immediately. At Professional Water Restoration, we respond quickly to secure your property, prevent further damage, and start the recovery process with confidence and care.

The Wind Damage Restoration Process (Aligned with IICRC Guidelines)

While the IICRC does not have a standalone wind damage protocol, it emphasizes an integrated approach across their water, mold, and structural restoration standards. Our wind damage restoration process begins with a full inspection of the property to identify visible and hidden structural issues. We immediately install emergency tarps and board-ups to cover roof breaches, broken windows, and exposed areas. This helps prevent water intrusion and secondary damage. If water has entered the property due to wind-created openings, we follow IICRC S500 standards for water extraction and structural drying. Once the property is secure and dry, we assess and repair roofing, siding, and any damaged structural elements to return your home or business to pre-loss condition.

Types of Wind-Related Damages and Their Effects

Wind can cause a wide range of structural issues, including:

  • Roof Damage: Missing or lifted shingles, damaged flashing, and roof punctures can lead to leaks and attic water intrusion.
  • Window and Door Breakage: Broken glass or failed seals allow water, wind, and debris to enter the interior of your property.
  • Siding and Fascia Damage: Uplifted siding or soffits can expose insulation and wall cavities to rain, leading to long-term structural rot and mold growth.
  • Fallen Trees and Debris: Impact damage from limbs or objects can affect roofs, walls, or utility connections.

Once these breaches occur, water can seep into your ceilings, walls, insulation, and flooring — often undetected until signs of mold, warping, or odors appear. That’s why quick professional response is critical not only to repair damage but also to prevent hidden issues from escalating into major problems.

Health Effects of Fire Damage Exposure

Smoke and soot particles are toxic and can linger long after the fire is extinguished. Exposure can cause respiratory problems, eye and skin irritation, headaches, nausea, and aggravate conditions like asthma or bronchitis. Children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable. Certain fires — especially those involving synthetic materials

— may release carcinogens and other hazardous compounds, making professional cleanup not only important but essential for safety.

Mar-25 demo and mold remediation in a condo unit closet. Excellent responsiveness, professionalism, and ultimately completed demo, containment, and disposal work by competent and experienced crew who were happy to answer Q’s during the job and communicated status and findings/observations throughout. Post work completion documentation in form of pictures and notes included in closure letter is a high value add part of the work. Would strongly recommend PWR on basis of my/our experience.

We suffered extensive water intrusion in our condo and due to the high mold readings, we vacated our unit due to my wife's compromised immune system. We contacted other companies for proposals to perform remediation and I did not have a comfort level until we met Seth at our unit. I immediately felt comfortable with Seth, and he did not disappoint. Their bid was very competitive, and I felt that they went above and beyond in the remediation. I was kept informed by Justin and Harley, and they encouraged my input. I have no hesitation in giving them my highest recommendation to others.

Professional Water Restoration came in and gave us the mental peace of mind we needed. We are 1st time homeowners so we had no idea what was right or wrong. They took great care of our home, explained what their process was, from start to finish, they were all individually so mindful to following up with us about next steps. Small businesses like them give me the faith in our humanity. Justin, Seth, Harley and their whole team worked together so smoothly. Fortunate to have been recommended to them. Highly recommend them to anyone who wants honest work and good group of people.

From the moment I reached out to them Regarding my elderly parents and the stress they were experiencing with the water damage to their condo, they exceeded my expectations times 50! Justin with Customer Service was responsive, sympathetic, and informative. Seth worked around my schedule given I was coming from out of town to accommodate a meeting. He was trustworthy and honest and left without pushing me to make any decisions prematurely or unnecessarily. Thank you Seth and Justin for helping me rest easy tonight!

We had a water leak in our kitchen that required a complete rebuild and mold mitigation. I called Professional Water Restoration and Justin answered the phone and was very helpful. I had an appointment the next morning with Seth and work began quickly. Kevin and Britt worked hard to get things ripped out, cleaned up and coordinated the mold mitigation team. Well done all around. 👍🏻 Thanks again for helping us get back on our feet.
